SHOREKALC / Q8 VERIFICATION
Benchmark 4: DIANA / PLAXIS dry excavation
Production Q8 comparison recorded 8 October 2026: drained Mohr-Coulomb Case A, excavation to 6 m, bonded wall interface and published wall self-weight included.
Published reference
DIANA's sheet-pile-wall benchmark documents the domain, wall, supports, surcharge, mesh and staged excavation. Its Mohr-Coulomb results compare DIANA with PLAXIS for dry and groundwater cases. This ShoreKALC study covers the dry Case A only.

Production Q8 wall profiles
| Recorded Q8 quantity | Peak magnitude |
|---|---|
| Wall movement | 34.13 mm |
| Bending moment | 292.66 kNm/m |
| Shear force | 95.15 kN/m |
| Axial force | 121.43 kN/m |
Interpretation and scope
The recorded production model contains 2,390 nodes and completes all five stages. Q8 movement, moment and shear are approximately 5% below the digitised DIANA peaks; axial force is approximately 0.7% below. The published PLAXIS and DIANA curves also differ.
Reference curves were digitised from published figures, rather than supplied as raw numerical arrays. This dry bonded-interface benchmark supports the demonstrated comparison; it does not establish general mesh independence or validation of the groundwater cases. Original geometry, wall stiffness and soil parameters were retained without fitting to the reference.
