2-Special confinement zone is located within the maximum moment applied to the column,
a).for example if the column is single curvature, the special zone would be within the middle section of the column (moment applied is more than 0.6 ΦMuo), this typically happens in columns at base where no resistance to rotation is possible, or if the engineer opts to “pin” the column
b).Where the column is under double curvature, special zone becomes at the top and bottom of the column, where the moment applied is more than 0.6 ΦMuo.
It is very important to note that columns connected to transfer elements attract high moments, therefore the special zone could extend way beyond the 1.2D region advised upon by the code
